Why should I buy a pre-owned bike from a dealer?
The brief answer is, because this is your safest option in many respects. While there is a broad range of pre-owned motorcycle sources, purchasing one from a licensed dealer provides you with the following benefits:
- Licensed dealers must go through a meticulous licensing process, which ensures that the operation is conducted by folks with traceable business and personal locations and no criminal record. They cannot just pop up in an on-line ad and disappear after the sale. They are there for you not only when you get the deal but after your purchase as well.
- Licensed dealers must acquire surety bonds for their operation which protect your financials in case of default on the dealers' side.
- Another advantage of buying a pre-owned motorcycle from a licensed dealership in Arizona is that the vehicle is covered by implied warranty. The seller warrants that the vehicle will be fit for the ordinary purposes for which the vehicle is used for 15 days or 500 miles after delivery, whichever is earlier, except with regard to particular defects disclosed. The purchaser will have to pay only up to $25 for each of the first two repairs if the warranty is violated. In a concrete example: You buy a motorcycle from a private party. On the way home you feel weird pulsation on the brakes at low speed. Later you learn from the service manager that the front rotors are warped and need to be replaced. Had you purchased the same vehicle from a dealer, your cost would be limited to $25; the rest would be paid by the seller.
- Only few people know that even if you get a seemingly 'clean' title from a private party, "Operations of Law Lien" (such as child support, tax, tickets) are not displayed on the title. You'll learn about it when transfer of ownership is declined at the MVD. When you purchase from a dealership, you are protected from such surprises.
What is the Lifetime Theft Warranty?
Motorcycle Sales Direct Lifetime Theft Warranty provides our clients with the safest possible option when purchasineg a pre-owend motorcycle. We not only say that our bikes are from documented soureces, we actually stand behind the origin of the vehicle up to its 100% value. How does it work?
Do I need a motorcycle license to buy a bike?
You don't need a license for the purchase as long as you trailer or ship the vehicle. If you want to ride the bike however, you'll need to have the motorcycle endorsement on your license.
Do you accept trade-ins?
If your current motorcycle is not older than five years and is in good to excellent condition, your trade-in is welcome at Motorcycle Sales Direct. We don't sell and we don't take neglected, abused or damaged vehicles.
Are the motorcycles covered by warranty?
All pre-owned vehicles sold by Motorcycle Sales Direct are covered by a State regulated Implied Warranty, regardless of their factory warranty status. Since our vehicles not only look good but are also in good mechanical condition, we can offer extended service contracts with most of our bikes. Occasionally we have motorcycles on display which are owned by a private person. Implied Warranty and extended service contracts do not apply to those vehicles.
What payment options do I have?
Currently Motorcycle Sales Direct can accept payment via cash, official bank check (cashier's check) and wire transfer.
Do I need to pay sales tax?
It depends on where you are going to register the motorcycle (your origin) and how the motorcycle will get to that destination:
All Arizona residents are required to pay all applicable sales taxes.
Out of State Clients:
- In case the motorcycle is shipped/delivered to your home state, the purchase is exempt from local taxes.
- In case you’d take possession of the motorcycle in Arizona, the transaction is subject to the current Scottsdale City Sales tax. The State and County tax to be paid is determined by the purchaser’s state. There are three possibilities: exemption, adjusted tax base, or no adjusted tax base. Please contact Motorcycle Sales Direct to review the information for you particular state.
How can I ship the vehicle to my location?
While you order the shipping directly from your preffered provider, we'll gladly assist you with the process. If you have no experience with motorcycle shipping, we can offer carriers we've already had satisfactory business with.
Can I ride the bike home?
Yes, you can. There will be either a 45 day Temporary Registration Permit (TRP) or a 90 day Non-Resident permit affixed to the bike which enables you to use the vehicle while you are waiting for or arranging your permanent licencse plate.
When and How do I receive the title, registration, and license plate?
- As an Arizona resident
You will receive by mail your title, registration and license plate before the temporary 45 day permit expires.
- Non-Arizona resident
will receive by mail the vehicle's title well before the 90 day Non- Resident permit expires. After you receive the Arizona title which is now in your name, you will go to your state Motor Vehicle Division to title, register and plate the bike in your home state.
Can I test ride the bikes?
There are two reasons why you'd want to take a test ride. One is to figure out if the bike you have your eye on is the right one for you. A short spin around the block will not answer this question anyway, so the best way to make sure you'd acquire the right fit is either to borrow a similar bike from a friend or rent one from a motorcycle rental agency. With prior arrangement we might be able to reimburse your one day rental charge if you end up purchasing the motorcycle from Motorcycle Sales Direct. The other usual reason for a test ride is to examine the mechanical condition of the motorcycle you are about to purchase. Even though all of our vehicles are mechanically sound, safety inspected and free of undisclosed preconditions, we do not expect you to solely rely on our words. While we had to scale back pre-purchase test rides due to liability issues, we can eliminate the "as is" type risk of your purchase through our Money Back Guaranty. When your purchase is finalized we'd ask you to take a test ride and if you experience any previously undisclosed mechanical issue that is inconsistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle, we'd fully refund your money, plus $200 compensation for your valued time.
